Summary of Duties Under the direct supervision of the Park Maintenance Supervisor this position performs manual and semi-skilled work in landscaping, construction, maintenance, operation, and repair of related service activities for the city's parks, athletic fields; and to performs other related duties as assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of landscaping duties; mows grass; plants flowers and shrubs; weed eats around signs and fence lines; clears leaves, tree limbs and other debris from park areas; spread ground cover, dirt, or mulch; prunes trees and shrubs; watering; pull weeds from flower beds; spread grass seed.
  • Manages the daily operations of the spray ground at Dagg park to include but not limited to; daily start up and shut down, scheduled water testing and recording, cleaning filter basket and back washing filter; clean out the holding tank with skimmer; drain and scrub on a weekly basis.
  • Assists in the preparation of baseball/softball and soccer fields for play (chalking, drag, line, rake, etc.).
  • Assists in daily maintenance of Waggin' Trails dog park.
  • Assists in daily shelter reservation check-ins, check-outs, and preparing shelters for next reservation.
  • Cleans grounds of litter, empties trash barrels, and hauls trash from all bins throughout the park system.
  • Performs janitorial duties and removes graffiti.
  • Assists in maintaining exterior and interior of restrooms, park office and maintenance shed, including walls, ceiling, roofs, gutter, windows, doors.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of equipment including paint machines, mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, snow blowers, spreaders as needed.
  • Cleans sidewalks and park trails using push brooms, shovels, blowers, and mechanical sweepers.
  • Assists in maintaining a clear record of maintenance, accident reports and repair activities. Informs Park Supervisor of materials and equipment needed to perform job.
  • Assists with special events and projects and seasonal work; installs and removes holiday decorations; clears parks areas of debris following special events.
  • Assist Municipal Services as needed, either as planned or joint projects.
  • Performs other related duties as required. Supervisory Responsibilities
    • Helps direct, oversee, and assist seasonal attendants in all aspects of park and facility maintenance duties described herein or as assigned. Budgetary Responsibilities
      • None Minimum Qualifications
        • High School diploma or GED.
        • Prefer some experience in grounds maintenance.
        • Must have a valid driver's license.
        • Must possess and maintain the following certification: first aid and CPR certification within 6 months of hire date.
        • May be required to obtain special certifications related to landscaping and aquatics.
        • Must be available to be on call as needed, with overtime, weekend and holiday work required. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
          • Ability to understand the parks infrastructure and related policies and projects.
          • Ability to exchange information for the purpose of clarifying details within well-established policies, procedures, and standards.
          • Requires the ability to operate and control the actions of equipment, Kubota and John Deer tractor, hand tools, machinery and or materials to complete task.
          • Must have the ability to perform the essential functions of this position, especially for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions.
          • Ability to use sound judgment to detect unusual, harmful, or emergency situations and act accordingly.
          • Ability to comprehend, process, and apply both verbal and written skills appropriate to the job.
          • Possess the ability to interpret and explain city policies and procedures to park patrons. Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Other Requirements
            • Tasks requires the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demand work, typical involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that generally involves lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (50lbs).
            • Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain fumes, temperate and noise extremes heights, confined spaces, toxic agents, irate customers.
            • Exposure to blood borne pathogens or human bacteria possible.
