SUMMARY Arcticom, a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native
Corporation is currently seeking a Mainframe Scheduler (Junior) to
support a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) contract.
Categories of services to be provided by the Scheduling team
include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Batch job set-up and configuration for execution on Mainframe
and Mid-Tier scheduling environments using the BMC CONTROL-M suite
of products. Provide day-to-day scheduling operations support
services, including monitoring, execution, and control of batch job
processing during all shift hours, 7 days per week, 52 weeks per
year.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESThe Essential Duties and
Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the
range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to
reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be
assigned.
- Provide operational support for automated batch job processing
using Government-furnished COTS products.
- Monitor batch processing and critical path batch workflow to
identify and research potential issues and resolve.
- Troubleshoot routine batch processing errors to isolate the
cause of failures, and initiate recovery actions working with
application developers, functional analysts and specialists.
- Report abends and issues that cannot be resolved within 15
minutes.
- Modify batch jobs based on predefined recovery and restart
instructions for failed jobs.
- Monitor and manipulate the JES2 input queue using IBM's SDSF to
ensure jobs are initiated and executing as expected.
- Monitor batch processing and critical path of batch workflow to
identify and research potential issues and resolve such issues
within pre-defined Service Level Agreements (SLA).
- Support established scheduling operations standards and
methods. Any custom approaches must be approved by the customer
prior to implementation.
- Support Morning, Evening and Midnight shifts, as required.
- Follow all customer shift turnover processes and
procedures.
- Report activities, accomplishments, and metrics as required for
weekly and monthly reporting periods.
- Provide status and progress for tasks and milestones in
comparison with project schedules.
- Escalate outstanding issue to contractor and customer team
leads for awareness and action.QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE,
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONTo perform this job successfully, an

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- General IT experience and related job skills, "trainable" as a
Junior/Apprentice level Mainframe Scheduler
- BMC Control-M for z/OS (IBM mainframe)
- BMC Control-M for Distributed Systems (Windows/UNIX)
- Possess a current technical certification: BMC Certified
Associate: Control-M 20.x for Schedulers (Company will provide
required training and certification prior to commencing work)
- In addition, Contractor personnel must possess a working
knowledge of the following IBM z/OS mainframe products and
utilities: TSO, JES2, SDSF, and CICS.
- IBM Job Control Language (JCL).
- Associate 'sdegree in relevant field, or equivalent work
experience in lieu of degree
- Familiarity with Windows operating systems.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, and
Outlook
- Ability to design and implement automated tests.
- Proficient in creation of readable documentation.
- Ability to remain calm and objective in escalation
scenarios.
- Excellent communication and customer care skills.
- Strong team-player and collaborator.
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance. Preferred
- Basic knowledge and experience as a junior level scheduler,
setting up end-to-end job schedules across mainframe and
distributed environments using automated methods with the following
software products, or similar:
- BMC Control products for z/OS. (BMC Control-M)
- BMC Control products for Distributed Systems.
- Formal training or basic work experience in the following IBM
z/OS mainframe utilities and environments:
- Respond to user requests and software errors.
- Monitoring system performance.
- Familiar with the fundamentals of data center networking.
- Familiar with security and governance requirements such as
FISMA, FedRAMP, DISA STIG, and securing operating systems to these
standards in an enterprise environment.
- Proven track record of diagnosing and resolving technical
problems by using vendor documentation or internet resources,
including performing log review, and using monitoring

is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens
and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and
multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily
in a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be

- This position is self-managed and works at the direction of the
government and is directly related to the business operation
