Job Description Best Choice Therapy Services team members are
health care professionals who treat individuals diagnosed with a
brain injury or traumatic brain injury. Our team works with
individuals in their home and community to help them recover their
abilities to complete daily tasks and work to reach goals that are
meaningful to them. The OT/COTA positions work with consumer 1:1 to
help them reach their overall treatment goals. These positions work
alongside an interdisciplinary team of Physical Therapists, Speech
Therapists, Cognitive Therapists and Behavioral Therapists to help
the consumer reach their desired quality of life after brain injury
diagnosis. Skills Required Compassion: You are working with people
who are under physical duress and pain. You must have a strong
sense of empathy and compassion to help people feel comfortable.
Communication Skills: Occupational therapists will need to be good
listeners and good communicators, listening to consumers describe
their ailments, working with them to come up with plans, explaining
progress to the consumer, their family, other healthcare
professionals, and their insurance company. Patience: Injuries and
illnesses have caused people to lose abilities they once had, and
will get frustrated when they can---t do them. Being calm and
patient will help them focus on therapy. Problem-Solving Skills:
You will be working with consumers to develop ways to manage pain,
cope with aliments and recover from physical or mental trauma. You
will need to think outside the box to create specific plans for
each person, according to their needs, comfort level and
limitations. Duties 1. Test and evaluate a consumers physical and
mental abilities and analyze medical data to determine realistic
rehabilitation goals for consumers---. 2. Select activities that
will help individuals learn work and life-management skills within
limits of their mental and physical capabilities. 3. Recommend
changes in consumers work or living environments, consistent with
their needs and capabilities. 4. Design and create, or requisition,
special supplies and equipment, such as splints, braces and
computer-aided adaptive equipment. 5. Advise on specialist
equipment to assist with daily activities. 6. Complete all
necessary weekly progress notes, documentation, and time sheets in
which should be turned in weekly for review. 7. Attend all staff
meetings as they are scheduled for updates or scheduled team
meetings per client as needed. 8. Adhere to all state guidelines
under the policies and procedures in the State TBI program manual
for Occupational Therapy. 9. Maintain and Active license with the
Kansas Board of Healing Arts. 10. Understand all disciplinary
actions under the Rules and Regulations for the State of Kansas
Board of Healing Arts. 11. Other duties as assigned. Continuing
Education Maintain professional and technical knowledge by
attending educational workshops; reviewing professional
publications; establishing personal networks; participating in
professional societies. Confidentiality Preserves and protects
patient and client in all situations and with all documentation.
Safety 1. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying
with safety procedures, rules, and regulations. 2. Protects clients
and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and
protocols. Compliance Adheres and adapts to client goals,
objectives, and standards of performance, policies and procedures.
Attendance 1. Maintains consistent and reliable attendance and
complies with Best Choice Therapy Services, Inc. guidelines on
attendance. 2. Demonstrates professionalism as a healthcare
professional by being punctual and dependable for
