Russell Tobin & Associates is currently seeking a Visual Merchandising Manager (VM) for our client, a Fortune 500 company. This is a direct-hire opportunity!The Visual Merchandising Manager (VM) is responsible for developing the creative strategy and visual presentation solutions for their assigned retailer(s)/product categories. The VM leads and oversees cross-functional teams inclusive of Visual Designers, Graphics Designers, Production Designers, Editors, Retail Designers, and Modeling/Rendering Designer to develop holistic, brand centric design solutions. The VM will directly manage overall performance and resource allocation of Visual Designers, Graphic Designers, Editors, and Production Designers. The VM is responsible for delivering on-brand, cost appropriate and operationally sound visual solutions (-200 programs annually).The VM is highly accomplished in art direction, strong communication and visualization skills, conceptual articulation skills, as well as "people and process" leadership skills and is a proven problem solver. S/he is respected among the creative and business communities for driving superior results with the consumer first, dealing with conflict directly, making unpopular but necessary decisions, and delivering difficult but constructive feedback. Essential responsibilities include:

  • Creative/Team Leadership: Ensures clarity of program and project deliverables focused on superior solutions; Manages a fluid workflow to achieve highest results, providing clear, timely feedback to the team; Ensures on time/on budget delivery to meet or exceed internal and external customer expectations.
  • Strategic Thinking: In partnership with leadership team members, sets creative strategy of merchandising assignments for the team; Defines and develops environmental strategies through a combination of graphic/wayfinding/navigation/fixture design application to support the merchandise, visual, and operational needs of the various channel retailers; Ensures program strategy aligns and supports brand guidelines and leverages consumer insights.
  • Solution Development: Leads cross-functional team to develop, design, and execute integrated merchandising solutions for retail presentations, integrated solutions, in-store display and consumer communications; Incorporates strong merchandising principles and proactive, innovative thinking as well as operational considerations; Understands the technical requirements of the category to leverage technologies in solutions (Blue Yonder, SMART, etc.); Stages internal design approvals from self to Account Management to ensure alignment of strategies (art + science) are met, preparing for Creative Design Review/Leadership Review.
  • People Management: Works with internal partners to identify, recruit, hire and develop the talent needed to achieve the merchandising strategy and business needs, ensures continuous improvement based on industry needs; Manages multi-disciplined direct reports (Visual Designers, Graphic Designers, Production Designers, Editors); Establish direction, set objectives, provide regular performance feedback.
  • Influences Product & Customer Development Strategies: Collaborates with key partners business unit partners and Customer Development peers to influence and inform product strategies through merchandising expertise to create easy, intuitive, holistic, and brand-consistent shopping experiences for the consumer
  • Research & Innovation: Collaborates in solving for, and conducting merchandising research with Insights, Data, and Analytics Team; Proactively researches the marketplace, retailers, and consumers to understand consumer trends and market developments; Maintains a knowledge of current Visual Merchandising industry insights and creative trends.BASIC QUALIFICATIONSThe following is required to be considered for this role:
    • Bachelor's Degree or 4 years of professional work experience
    • Minimum 5 years of industry experience in visual merchandising, retail design, retail graphic design, interior design, retail marketing, and/or retail management
    • Minimum 5 years of people AND project leadership experience
    • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSYour resume and portfolio/application will stand out if you have:
      • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume retail creative environment
      • Elevated verbal and written communication skills, including pitching and presentation experience
      • Effective command skills and negotiation abilities
      • Strategic agility and ability to learn and iterate on the fly
