In Kansas City, Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies (FM&T) manages and operates the U.S. Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration's (NNSA) Kansas City National Security Campus. Job Description
Honeywell FM&T is seeking a professional interested in exploring a fire protection career at the Kansas City National Security Campus. This position serves as the Fire Protection Engineer (FPE) Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HS&E) Department of Honeywell FM&T. This individual will assist in the development of activities and programs directed toward preventing accidents, eliminating health and safety hazards and achieving compliance with current fire protection codes, standards, regulations, and Department of Energy (DOE) directives.



  • Provides code interpretation as SMEs to HS&E managers and line management to achieve compliance with applicable fire protection codes and standards (NFPA, IFC, IBC).


  • Develops equivalencies, exemptions, and other fire protection documents required by DOE or regulatory agencies.


  • Reviews plant facilities, equipment, materials, and work practices to identify unsafe conditions and assure implementation of appropriate hazard controls for life safety.


  • Reviews proposed layouts, facility design drawings and equipment specifications for fire protection code and standard compliance and documents findings for corrective action.


  • Develops orientations and training programs related to fire protection for employees.


  • Specifies, procures, operates, and maintains fire protection equipment required for job related tasks.


  • Completes fire investigate for accidents to determine causes and recommends action to prevent recurrence.


  • Works with plant supervision, union representation and employees to resolve fire protection concerns.


  • Supports in development and implementation of emergency management and related programs.


  • Supports Operational Readiness Reviews, Emergency Response Drills and Exercises, Beneficial Occupancy Inspections, Hazard Assessments, Risk Assessment, and other investigations


    Must Have


    • 8 or more years of experience in Fire Protection


    • Bachelor from an accredited engineering or engineering technology curriculum related to the field of fire protection.


    • Capable of obtaining Fire Protection Engineer credentials (DOE-STD-1066) within two years


    • United States citizen
